Ripley is a large school situated in beautiful grounds in the city of Lancaster. The school has a long and proud tradition, having been established as the gift of Thomas and Julia Ripley in 1864. Their spirit of faith, hard work and service is still at the core of what we do and what we offer today, over 150 years later.
Ripley St Thomas Church of England Academy has 1730 young people aged 11-18 on roll, with 380 in the Sixth Form. The school admits 280 pupils to Year 7 in September and is regularly oversubscribed. Christian foundation is central to all we do and are at Ripley. Our mission is to develop our young people in mind, body and spirit and enable them to develop a faith to sustain them in the future. Pupils have many opportunities for worship and service at Ripley and are given time to explore the spiritual dimension of their lives.
Ripley has a long tradition of academic excellence; results and value added scores place us amongst the highest achieving non-selective schools in the country. The majority of our young people go on to study at university or take up higher apprenticeships. We are confident that we provide a rigorous and productive learning environment where children are both challenged and supported. Our conviction is that education should address the whole of what it means to be a happy, fulfilled and successful adult.; as such, we offer a broad range of co-curricular activities to supplement and enhance the experiences gained in the classroom. We have high expectations of all our pupils and are determined that each young person will have the opportunity to shine during their time with us – and enjoy themselves in the process!
